Free Colouring Page! Sunset, Lake of the Woods (1928)

As some of you know, my day job involves working as the Art Centre Programmer at the The Muse in Kenora, Ontario. With the current pandemic situation, we are closed to the public and I have been trying to figure out new ways to engage our audience in art activities until we can once again open our doors.

In my search for ideas, I began by exploring what other public art galleries were doing and came across the "Colouring the Collection" content being posted by the Winnipeg Art Gallery. I decided to make my own colouring book pages from our collection to share with our audience both locally and around the world!

First up is the beautiful Sunset, Lake of the Woods (1928) by Walter J. Phillips. This woodblock print is among my favourite pieces from the collection, with its lovely sunset hues and subject matter so familiar to those of us who enjoy our summers on Lake of the Woods. For those unfamiliar with Phillips, he was a Canadian artist working primarily in woodblock printing and watercolours, depicting the landscapes that surrounded him. For many years, he spent summers with his family on Lake of the Woods.

I would love to see what you create, so please share by tagging @themusekenora and @shelbydawnsmith on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

Stay home, stay safe, and make some art!
